Olá! We all know that Brazilian coffee and specialty coffee go hand in hand – this beautiful origin can be found in countless delicious cups of coffee being served all over Australia and the world. But we believe that our home country has an even more exciting world of undiscovered flavours and people just waiting for you to meet. Southland Merchants is us – Nadia Moreira and Andre Selga – and we’re excited to introduce you to the diversity of Brazil at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo!
We’re Your Brazilian Team
Some of our best mates grow coffee in Brazil; we’re messaging with them about life and the coffee world on a daily basis. Along with these close personal relationships, we’ve built a great export team in Brazil and handle all our own importing here in Australia. We’re huge fans of what Brazil can offer and make sure that transparency and traceability are right at the centre of all of these relationships. We introduce our roaster partners to their perfect coffee and producer fit – whether for high scoring, experimental micro-lots or multiple containers of blend-ready coffee (or anything in between!). Our eye is always on making the entire process open and sustainable for everyone. Think about us as not just a place to purchase coffees, but your own in-house Brazilian coffee experts.

Get ready for a Brazilian coffee carnaval! At the upcoming MICE show, we’ll be bringing things to life, celebrating the variety, quality and stories from our coffee partners. Whether Brazil is already a much loved feature in your line-up or you’re ready to treat your palate to new flavours and perspectives, there’ll be lots to discover from this pioneering origin. Stop by Stand #272 to have a chat and taste an exciting range of regions, varietals and processing methods.
Impact With Us
A big part of our ex-pat hearts are firmly tied to our mates back in Brazil which is why we’re very proud to be using our coffee journey to improve the livelihoods of many of these small scale producers. We believe that the path to this positive impact is through empowerment and helping their businesses be strong and sustainable. We’ve tackled this with projects ranging from mentorships between larger and smaller producers, quality development and production efficiency through to business management support. We also founded a non-profit association, Educare, to empower these farmers with knowledge and technical skills. Partnering with Southland Merchants supports these initiatives and we’d love you to join us in this great work!

Getting coffee from Brazil to your roastery in Australia is a long journey. Luckily, working with us, it’s nothing you need to worry about! Before we dove into the coffee community, we built our skills working in large scale import and export businesses and have your back on everything needed to get from B(razil) to A(ustralia). Southland Merchants is all about combining our logistical expertise and business-sense with our love of tasty coffees and a vision to use it to improve the livelihoods of our mates producing it.
