The Coffee Industry Heroes Awards aim to recognise the people whose commitment, craft and leadership shape Australia’s celebrated coffee culture.
Launched in 2025, the Coffee Industry Heroes Awards were established to highlight the individuals who contribute to the success and vitality of the Australian coffee industry. While the sector is known globally for its innovation and quality, many of the individuals who uphold these standards operate quietly, consistently and without public recognition. The Awards aim to honour these contributors and elevate the stories behind the craft.
Last year’s program recognised individuals whose contributions reflected the diversity and strength of the Australian coffee community. Honourees included individuals known for their deep community engagement, dedication to learning, and decades of influence and service.
A special tribute was also made to Wells Trenfield, an industry pioneer whose lifelong commitment to sustainability and positive social impact left an enduring legacy. Trenfield’s work continues to shape the values and direction of the coffee sector today.
Nominations for the 2026 Coffee Industry Heroes Awards are now open, with categories reflecting the many pathways’ individuals contribute to the industry:

- Lifetime Achievement
- Next-Gen Talent
- Sustainability Champion
- Coffee Educator
- Best New Café
- Home Grown Hero
These categories ensure that excellence is celebrated across all corners of the sector, from the café floor to the roastery, from the lab to the training room.
Nominations are open to everyone within the coffee community. Individuals can nominate colleagues, mentors, employees, or industry peers. Self-nominations are also welcome, ensuring that no outstanding contributor is overlooked.
The process is simple: entrants are asked to share who the nominee is, describe the work they do and explain why their contribution deserves recognition. Submissions are encouraged to highlight personal impact, professional excellence, leadership qualities or community influence.
The 2026 Coffee Industry Heroes Awards continue MICE’s commitment to celebrating the people who keep the industry thriving. By acknowledging both emerging and established talent, the program aims to strengthen community pride, encourage excellence and inspire the next generation.
The Awards will be presented during MICE 2026. Further details about the ceremony will be announced soon, including the final judging panel, finalist announcements and key dates.
