THE BOARD OF ASCA: WHO ARE THEY? 

Recently we introduced MICE-lovers to the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) – the body behind the competitions you see on the Main Stage at MICE each year.

ASCA recently held its Annual General Meeting, where the current ASCA Board was decided. We congratulate Kieran Westlake, Nic Michaelides, Chris Wheatley, David Boudrie, Michaela Gerard, Cameron Ballard, Bruno Maiolo and Melissa Caia on their appointments. ASCA Board members are volunteers who work full-time in the Australian coffee industry, all of whom are dedicated to seeing local coffee professionals and the industry continue to grow.

The relationship between MICE and ASCA is a long-standing and important one. The ASCA Australian Coffee Championships held at MICE provide an exciting feature for the event and yet another important reason for the coffee community to come together. For the competitions, MICE provides an international competition stage and global audience for the competing baristas to showcase their skills.

When announcing the partnership for 2019, former ASCA President Brent Williams said that ASCA recognises the significance of MICE as Australia’s premier specialty coffee expo.

“ASCA has been partnering with MICE since its inception in 2012. With our mission being to advance specialty coffee in Australia, it makes perfect sense that we would achieve this goal in partnership with a flagship event like MICE.”
